December was such a magical time around Homeward Bound, with so much to celebrate.

The month started strong with our Thunderbirds Charities holiday party! Homeward Bound families joined us for a festive afternoon of cookie decorating, visits with Santa, and a delicious community meal,  made possible by the Thunderbirds Wives. As if that wasn’t enough of a treat, the kids and teens of Homeward Bound also received their gifts that had been donated by Community Partners and our Thunderbirds friends and their families.

There was even more holiday cheer to be had when the Diamondbacks  invited 25 teens on campus for their 13th Annual Diamondbacks shopping trip at our neighborhood Target. Each teen was paired with a member of the Diamondbacks team and given a $250 budget to shop their hearts out. While some teens opted for new clothes, others went for their very first bikes! After all the excitement of shopping, everyone sat down to enjoy a meal provided by Chick-fil-a and have a merry time with one another.

Target did more than host us for our Diamondbacks Teen Shopping Event. Later, they generously donated gingerbread decorating kits to the kids in our Youth Programs. They had a jolly good time making these houses to take home to their family after their time in our afterschool Library program.

The Diamond Backs were not the only Arizona sports team to do big things for our youth on campus! Dennis Gardeck, a linebacker with the Arizona Cardinals, selected Homeward Bound to participate in the My Cleats My Cause Program. One of the youths on campus got to design a pair of cleats for Dennis to wear during their game against the Patriots, which were auctioned off to benefit Homeward Bound.

As if that wasn’t exciting enough, the Cardinals also invited Jayden, the designer of the shoes, to the game!

Our school-aged kids weren’t the only ones having a delightful time last month. The little ones in our Strong Foundations, early childhood learning center, did too, in-part thanks to our team member of the month, Tameka.

Tameka is our Associate Director of Early Education here at Homeward Bound. Tameka has been working in early education for nearly 19 years now. She has an absolute passion for working with children and is an extraordinary leader to her team at Strong Foundation. When Tameka isn’t shaping young minds, she enjoys doing nails and growing her shoe collection.
